Fixing drafty windows, with heavy curtains can be quick and fast. Often a window isn't drafty, but the cool air you feel coming from it, is heat being sucked right out of you body. Heat radiates from your body, and its reflected back, but when you got to a window, that is sealed against drafts, and it feels cold, you might be transferring body heat to the outdoors through radiation. Also, when room air comes in contact with window glass, which isn't very efficient at insulating as wall insulation, the air cools down. Then when you feel this cooler air, it feels like a drafty window.
So how do you reduce this heat transfer from inside your home to outside your home? Use heavy curtains. Being heavy, they have a certain thickness that allows for insulating your home against the cooler glass in your windows. Also heavy curtains will actually block air flow up and against the cool windows. This will reduce heat two ways, by limiting radiation heat losses, and convection heat loses.
Now whether you want to buy heavy curtains to fix your cool windows, is up to you. Many home owners would rather spend money on making their homes look nicer than giving that money to the utility companies to keep their home warm. Keep your home warm and better looking by getting yourself some nice heavy curtains, to reduce heat loss.
Fixing drafty windows, with heavy curtains can save you money by cutting your heating costs. |
